Root Cause FAQs
WHAT IS ROOT CAUSE PRACTICE & IS IT FOR ME?
1. How can I know if a Root Cause Session is right for me?
If you sense there's something beneath the surface of what you're experiencing, ie a pattern that keeps repeating, an emotion you can't quite reach, or a feeling that more insight alone isn't shifting things, Root Cause Practice may be exactly what you're looking for.
It's particularly well suited to women who value depth, are curious about the connection between their body, emotions and life experience, and are ready to explore what's truly going on beneath the story they've been telling themselves.
If you're unsure, the best first step is a free discovery call. We can talk through where you are and whether this feels like the right fit, with no pressure, no obligation.
2. I've done a lot of personal development and inner work — will Root Cause Practice still offer me something new?
Almost certainly yes, and in fact, people who've already done significant inner work often find Root Cause Practice goes somewhere their previous work hasn't quite reached. You may have wonderful insight and self-awareness, and still find certain patterns or feelings haven't fully shifted. That's often because the root: the place in the body where it's still held, hasn't been directly accessed yet.
Your existing awareness aids the process too, how you can sense, notice and articulate what's happening inside.
3. I'm quite self-aware but feel like I'm still stuck in my story. Can this help?
This is one of the most common things I hear.
It’s very common to understand your patterns intellectually. You know where they come from, and yet something hasn't shifted. Root Cause Practice works below the level of story and insight, directly with what the body is holding
Often the missing piece isn't more understanding, it's the somatic, felt-sense release that allows the insight you already have to finally land. Many clients describe a session as the moment something they'd known for years actually moved.
4. How is Root Cause Practice different from therapy or counselling?
Root Cause Practice isn't therapy, though it can feel deeply therapeutic. Rather than diagnosing or treating mental health conditions, it works to uncover the deeper origins of patterns, beliefs and emotional pain, gently exploring the emotional and energetic root causes beneath what you're experiencing.
Sessions weave together body wisdom, emotional processing and inner exploration in a way that's holistic rather than clinical. Many women find it a powerful complement to therapy, or a natural next step when traditional talking approaches haven't quite reached the deeper layer.
5. How does a Root Cause Session fit into therapy / counselling / coaching with another practitioner?
A Root Cause Session can complement your existing therapeutic or coaching work beautifully, helping you deepen your understanding and healing. Rather than replacing what you're already doing, it can enhance your overall journey, offering a unique, body-centred layer of insight and support that sits alongside other modalities.
6. Are you trained directly in Tracey Stevens' Root Cause method?
Yes. I'm a Certified Root Cause Practitioner trained in Tracey Stevens' method, and I'm also a Teacher/Supervisor and Mentor of the Advanced Interns in Tracey’s Root Cause Practitioner Pathway Program.
I've been practising Root Cause since 2022 and have worked with clients globally. If you've come across Tracey's work and it resonates, you're in the right place.
WHAT TO EXPECT: BEFORE & DURING
7. What can I expect from a session?
A Root Cause Session is holistic and body-centred in nature. You'll be asked some gentle questions around your symptom or issue, then together we'll explore your body's experience of your situation, helping you identify suppressed emotions, thought patterns and beliefs.
This session is an opportunity to gain insights into your body's wisdom and hidden emotional truths, helping you understand and address what's truly going on beneath the surface.
8. What happens after I book?
When you book via my Calendly page, you can select a date and time that suits you in your time zone. You'll receive a confirmation email and a reminder 24 hours before our session.
There's no need to pre-prepare; however I suggest identifying one main issue for us to focus on. You're always welcome to book additional sessions if needed.
9. I'm feeling nervous about what might come up in a session.
Feeling nervous is completely understandable. It can be daunting to explore what lies beneath the surface. I want to reassure you that we'll always go at your pace, respecting your body's natural process and timing. There is no pressure to force or push through anything.
The process is collaborative, and you can pause or take a break at any point. Many clients find that the nervousness dissolves quickly once we begin, because the work is gentle, even when it goes deep.
10. What if something big comes u?
It's completely normal for memories and emotions to arise during a session. Emotions are welcome here, even when they're unexpected or uncomfortable. In daily life we often do everything we can to avoid feeling our deeper emotions, which is why it can be a surprise to discover how much the body has been quietly holding.
I have extensive training and experience in holding space for whatever arises, and we always go gently. That said, I've seen time and again how deeply healing it can be when the body finally releases what it's been carrying, sometimes for years.
11. How can I get the best results from a session?
The most powerful thing you can bring is curiosity and a willingness to notice what's happening inside you, not just in your mind, but in your body too. It can be helpful to approach a session without a fixed idea of what should happen. Because the body often has its own knowing about what needs attention, and the work tends to unfold most naturally when we follow that rather than a predetermined agenda.
Choosing a quiet, private space where you feel safe and won't be interrupted also makes a real difference, especially for online sessions.
PRACTICAL & AFTER
12. How many sessions will I need?
A single Root Cause Session can offer powerful insight and support for a specific issue. It's ideal if you're looking for a fresh perspective, emotional release, or to join the dots on something that's been present for a while.
That said, if you've been doing inner work for some time and sense there are deeper layers to explore, a 3-session package offers a more spacious journey. It creates room to return, reflect and receive support as your inner landscape shifts, which is often where the most lasting transformation unfolds. We can always discuss what feels right for where you are at the end of our first session together.
13. Is there anything I need to do after a session to help me integrate?
Post-session, the most important thing is to be gentle with yourself and allow space for the work to settle. Integration doesn't always happen immediately. Sometimes insights and shifts continue to unfold in the hours and days that follow.
If you feel the need for further support, please do schedule a follow-up session. And if any questions arise after we finish, you're always welcome to email me.
14. How can I continue working with you and receive ongoing support?
If you'd like to continue after your first session, you can book individual sessions or explore a 3-session Root Cause package for more sustained support.
For those who feel called to a deeper, longer journey, my mentoring offering provides ongoing, consistent support over time. You're welcome to get in touch to explore what ongoing work might look like for you.
15. Can deep transformational work like this really happen online?
Yes, and many clients are genuinely surprised by how well it translates. The work is internal and body-centred, so what matters most is that you're in a quiet, private space where you feel safe to go inward.
Zoom creates a surprisingly intimate container for this kind of work. All you need is a reliable internet connection, headphones if possible, and somewhere you won't be disturbed. Many of my clients across the globe find online sessions just as comfortable, if not more, than in-person work.
16. Confidentiality
All sessions are completely confidential and your privacy is assured. What you share in our sessions stays between us.
17. Please note: Root Cause Practice is not a substitute for medical advice
Root Cause Practice is metaphysical, emotional and energetic in nature, exploring the connections between symptoms and unresolved emotional wounds and beliefs. It is not a substitute for medical advice or treatment.
Please consult a qualified medical professional for any medical concerns. While many clients experience profound shifts in their wellbeing, no specific outcomes or disappearance of symptoms can be guaranteed. Each person's journey is unique.
