Why Practitioner Mentoring Matters
Because these times are asking more of us: Supporting others through collective uncertainty and rapid change requires practitioners and facilitators who are grounded, embodied, adaptive and well supported. It’s harder to do this work over the longer time effectively if you're carrying it all alone, and feeling unsupported yourself.
We all have blind spots: When you're holding space for someone's pain or navigating a challenging relational or energetic dynamic, it can be hard to see yourself clearly; we can lose perspective. Practitioner Mentoring helps you see what you can't see alone.
For client and group safety: Without regular reflection, it's easy to slip into an unhealthy dynamics, bad habits, or make decisions based on unprocessed assumptions rather than what's actually needed. Practitioner Mentoring is preventative.
For your sustainability: Holding space without your own support can lead to compassion fatigue and burnout. When you're working for too long in isolation, decisions can start to feel heavy. Having a safe place to debrief ensures your self-care needs are met.
For professional development: Training teaches you a modality, whereas supervision teaches you to be a more effective practitioner / group facilitator. The nuanced skills of discernment, boundaries, trusting the process and attunement are ongoing. Also transformational work will bring you face to face with your own growth edges. Meeting these helps to cultivate deeper courage, increase skill and self-trust.
It’s embodied: We'll track not just what happened in your sessions, but what you're noticing in your body as you describe it - because your somatic experience holds information your mind might miss. This practice cultivates trust in your embodied knowing, which deepens the transformational and healing nature of your work.
Hi, I'm Laurelle. With over 18 years of combined experience in counselling, mentoring, group facilitation, women’s circle work, Root Cause Practice and Supervision, I've been providing supervision for practitioners for over 7 years - including 5 years supervising groups and mentors in a not-for-profit and 2+ years supervising Root Cause Practitioners in depth in their 1:1 client and group work.
I understand the unique challenges of holding transformational space: the relational and energetic complexity, the responsibility, the ethical grey areas, and the isolation that can arise without ongoing support. I work with my whole body's wisdom, not just my mind and theoretical understanding. I support practitioners and facilitators to build safe, grounded connections with those they serve, navigate what surfaces in the work and prioritise their own wellbeing within the helping journey.
